After a year of delays, VicTrack and DEDJTR finally responded to SOS Ballarat’s FOI request to show the basis on which HALF the land at the Ballarat Station was declared surplus to future transport needs.
You might have expected they’d look at demand growth -from Ballarat’s burgeoning population and the skyrocketing shift toward rail to get to Melbourne. That’s what we thought too.
But the FOI came up with nothing. Turns out they just decided to sell half the site and the 1863 Goods Shed on what appears to be a WHIM !
They are spending $27m to make this sale work for the private developer, and only $5m on improvements for commuters. No wonder this is shrouded by commercial-in-confidence provisions and the Minister for Regional Development is locally known as the
MINISTER FOR REGIONAL D E V E L O P E R S. !
We’d be ashamed to admit such a deal too! And to make matters worse, Dan and his local Labor lapdogs do nothing about it and have never fronted a public meeting to explain why they think this is a good deal for us.
SHAME, LABOR, SHAME.
